About Us

Our story

Rooted in Sujanagar, growing together in the UK

Sujanagar Association UK was founded in 2017 by members of the Sujanagar community living in the United Kingdom. Like most British Bangladeshis, our families trace their roots to the Sylhet region, in our case to Sujanagar, a union in Barlekha thana, Moulvibazar District, which our elders also call Azimganj and Fatary. Our home is famous for agar and attar, and many of our families trade pure oud across the Middle East. What began as a way to stay connected has grown into an organisation dedicated to faith, solidarity and service.

We support one another here in Britain, and we are committed to improving the quality of life of people who are less fortunate, particularly in Sujanagar, through poverty relief, education and healthcare.

What we stand for

Our charitable aims

What our constitution commits us to

Our aims are for the public benefit, in the United Kingdom and in Sujanagar Union, Barlekha Upazila, Moulvibazar District, Bangladesh, and particularly among people of Sujanagar heritage:

  1. To advance the Islamic faith.
  2. To prevent or relieve poverty, including by grants, goods or services to people in financial hardship.
  3. To advance education, including religious and general education for children, young people and adults.
  4. To advance health and relieve sickness, including by supporting medical treatment and healthcare facilities.
  5. To relieve those in need because of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
  6. In the interests of social welfare, to provide facilities for recreation and leisure-time activity that improve people’s conditions of life.

Advisory Council

Experienced members of our community who advise the trustees and help run fair elections.
